Reported Speech. Statements and Questions.


John: I haven’t been to Santiago.


Maria: Do you like dancing?


Peter: I didn’t study for the exam!

Anna: Did you come to classes yesterday?


Lucy: I saw a ghost last night.

Paul: How old is your mother?


Anna: I heard a girl singing.

Mark: Do you want to go out tonight?


Lucy: I ran after the boy.


Rick: When did you see Peter?

Gaby: I won’t say anything.

Tom: Were you alone last night?


Mark: I don’t believe in ghosts.

Paul: Can you play a guitar?


Peter: They aren’t my friends.


Fred: What have you done?

Gaby: I was at school at 6.

John: Did you know him?


Paul and John: We will wash the dishes.

Lucy: Did you eat spaghetti for lunch?

Mark: I lost my jacket.

Rick: Why don’t you like me?


Paul: I didn’t practice English.


Lucy: Are you scared?

Anna: I will see you tomorrow.


Mary: Have you tried Chinese food?

Lucy: My dog disappeared!


Jim: When is the ceremony?

James: Tom is waiting for us.

Pre test Reported Speech.

Pre-Test on Reported Speech.





Objective: To apply Reported Speech to provide information given by another person..





I.              Transform the following statements to Indirect Speech.





1)   John: "Tom was on time yesterday."
John said that Tom had been on time the day before.



2)   Max: "Frank comes everyday here."
Max told me that Frank came everyday there.



3)   Susan: "I didn’t buy anything."
Susan said that She hadn’t bought anything.



4)   Simon: "David will finish the report."
Simon said that David would finish the report.



5)   Peggy: "People can help more."
Peggy said that People could help more.



6)   Richard: "I’m tired."
Richard said that he was tired.





II.            Report the following questions.



1)   Christopher: "Are you ready to start?"
Christopher asked me if I was ready to start.
2)   Betty: "Why do you read these books?"
Betty asked why I read those books.

3)   Mark: "Have you eaten Thai food?"
Mark asked me if I had eaten Thai food.
4)   Ronald: "Were you waiting for me?"
Ronald asked me if I had been waiting for him.

5)   Elisabeth: "Do you enjoy x-games?"
Elisabeth asked me if I enjoyed x-games.
6)   Mandy: "Who do you live with?"
Mandy asked who I lived with.
